The Student Planning Association (SPA) at ASU was created to help further Arizona State planning student’s educational goals and enhance their experience within the planning program through events, advocacy, and distribution of information.
Participating in the SPA is a rewarding activity. Active members have the opportunity to work closely with faculty and fellow students outside of the classroom, address student advocacy concerns, gain valuable information through professional office tours, access scholarship and internship information, and connect with neighboring communities. Join us and make the most of your educational experience.
Workshops and Seminars
Workshops and seminars are designed to help students become familiar planning specialities. This experience will be a hands on introduction to land use, zoning, community engagement, transportation, and AICP preperation, and professional development.
Professional Office Field Trips and Social Trips
With the help of local government staff and professional planning firms around the valley, SPA organizes professional tours to introduce students to planning work environments. SPA also takes trips to special locations such as Arcosanti, Taliesin West, and Verrado to take tours and learn about the interaction between planning and architecture.
Information Sessions and Bi-weekly Meetings
In a collaborative effort with the school, SPA organizes informational seminars or symposiums on topics including internships and scholarships. SPA duly constituted meetings are informational and go over all current aspects of the organization.
Community Service and Events
SPA plans several community service events in conjunction with URB, the newly formed Urban Planning Honor Society at ASU. Events will include trips to the Mesa Urban Garden and service activities with Habitat for Humanity, Central Arizona.
